Whilst drawing my typefaces I thought about how I could present some sort of common theme to run throughout my t-shirt range. I always insisted that this was a typography driven brief where the process becomes the force behind what comes out at the end. It has since occurred to me that I can't just rely on the typography and I must come up with some sort of concept.
Discussed during the tutorial last week was what I wanted to get from the brief and how far I could take an idea, and Ross also pointed out that he was concerned at how this brief sat with the rest of the briefs and what the link was.
I took the advice on board and continued with what I was doing still maintaining that this brief was a chance to design some decorative impactful and contemporary typefaces, it was not about sending a message, a calling to action but I still needed a theme or concept to use my typefaces for.
That's where I started to play around with the idea of using infographics, something that is also supported on one of my other briefs but I didn't want the result to turn into another premier league report but on a t-shirt. With that in mind I have combined the two (type and info graphics) and hit on the concept of '100% element'.
I started out by sketching graphs and charts in the shapes of letter forms and now I have a full set to work with.
Element concept idea
