Trying to pin down an area of study

I think I may have an idea of how I want to approach the project. I want to focus on type and layout which was something I have always been interested in. I'm not a very good illustrator, sure I can make patterns and that but when asked to sketch something it's often poor. After debating whether to sketch icons, I decided I will probably use type as a medium and collect anything with type on.

I then thought about the summer and what has happened, and what experiences I have had so far. I want to treat my journal(s) as like a summer diary, and make each page into an observation. For example the first observation I thought of was the last tweet I did which was 'the ratio of sheep to people in wales is ridiculous.' Now if I borrow type from whatever means, I can sketch, photograph, collage the type. To develop further I could sketch icons or little images to accompany these observations.

I know it's all pie in the sky at the moment and I will carry out research and gather a load of 'stuff' before making a decision. My sketchbooks aren't usually as visual or ambitious as what I am looking at here but I hope I can pull it off.

edit: i think these observations are going to be just a apart of what I am doing.
