These are the notes I took for the After Effects workshop. Today, there was a lot of information to take in. I know a little more now about the software, in terms of limitations and I will take this new knowledge into account when developing my storyboards.

Importing multiple layers to after effects

- Split layers in photoshop, and delete background

- file import – file – import as

– Composition (all layers are imported) footage (can important merged image or one layer)

- all layers appear as new composition

- you can change composition settings once you have created your photoshop file and imported it.

- cropped composition layer – anchor point for each letter

Pan behind tool – change the anchor point (centre of rotation)

Vector based artwork – infinitely scalable

Pixel artwork – needs to be biggest size and scaled down otherwise loses quality

Shy switch –hides layer and simplifies what you work with

Continuously rasterize switch – rasterizes vector artwork at current size

Motion blur switch - can be added to emphasise speed of movement

Image sequence – allows you to import an image sequence as footage (warp text)

Reverse sequence – layer – time – time reverse layer

Nesting compositions – nest one composition into another. Make new composition and drag assets across from existing one.

Sequence layers one after the other – plays like image sequence. (select all layers) (animation - key fram assistant - sequence layers)

Masks – used to move text along a path
