I've now come up with a concept that I am relatively happy with in CD packaging. I like the physicality of buying a CD off the shelf rather than downloading a few files which contain the music and then looking for a crappy low res album cover image online. The packaging offers a more thorough experience and one which involves the listener much more by easing them into a musical experience through a variety of visual content. Well, that is achieved when packaging is well designed. On the other hand CD packaging can be restricted to a jewel case, but then does the jewel case make the collectibility side of CD packaging more appealing because the shape is uniform? I think so. The jewel case itself is a little boring but its structure can be filled with a range of substrate.

There is definitely something about adding to an already booming collection, which can be revisited any time you want.
